Artist Insider

Robin Lore

Last week we welcomed the one and only Robin Lore into the studio to record a few songs for the upcoming Sounds of Dallas EP.  Robin was the 2008 Orange County Music Awards Best Live Female performer and winner of the Texas Solo Artist “Bridgie” Award.

Listen To Robin’s Latest – Indecision

Robin has been playing music since she was a toddler. Starting out as drummer, she worked her way to the front of the band.  Her voice is unique, almost haunting at times and her lyrics are both thought provoking and insightful.

After recording “Indecision” we sat down with Robin to get some insight into what makes this woman tick, this is what she had to say:

When do your ideas come to you?

My ideas can come to me at any time really…. Sometimes while I’m driving, sometimes while I’m lying in bed and sometimes in the bathroom.  It mostly depends on what’s going on in my life at the time and how much needs to get out of my head at any given moment.

Why did you decide to become a songwriter?

I didn’t really decide to become a songwriter, in fact, I never thought of myself as one until much later in life.  I was a drummer…. not a songwriter….. It just kind of happened on it’s own.

What’s your favorite piece of music and why?

I could never tie down one favorite piece of music… It changes almost daily….  I love a lot of songs and appreciate even more, but that is a difficult question to answer.  I guess if I had to I would say Ani Difranco, Outta Me only because that’s what made me want to be a singer/songwriter/guitar player…..  That and Bob Dylan, Don’t Think Twice because…. well…. It’s Bob Dylan and that song gives me the goosebumps every time I hear it.  Again, that could change to something else tomorrow, but for today, let’s go with that.

How was writing for other artist different than for yourself?

Writing for other artists is different than writing for myself because it’s a song based on someone else’s experience, not my own.  It’s much less personal and more difficult because of that reason.

Which song you have written is your favorite and why?

Hmmmm…. My favorite song I have written is probably a tie between I Don’t Know Why and If You Could Change The Past. They are both, in my opinion, emotionally hard hitting songs and I would actually listen to them over and over again if they were written by someone else.

What’s the weirdest thing that’s ever happened to you while working on a song?

Obviously, the weirdest thing that’s ever happened to me while recording a song was being trapped in the studio with the doberman that would eat your face…. But the weirdest thing that’s ever happened to me while working on a song was when I wrote Play Me A Song….  I had the guitar part first (which I very rarely do) and I couldn’t think of what I wanted the song to even be about. I wasn’t having any drama in my life at that time so it was rough writing. LOL.  I went to bed and had this really vivid dream about a guy I had dated many years prior… It almost spelled out the song for me and every word in that song is from that dream.

What’s next?

Hoping what’s next is me getting my song or songs onto a movie soundtrack and getting some recognition so I can start writing for others again.

Robin has great things ahead of her whether it’s being featured on a movie soundtrack or landing song writing gigs.  Stay tuned for more greatness from her.
